REFORMER VS MAT PILATES

REFORMER VS MAT PILATES

We’ve been busy! Last week we dropped a completely new category: Reformer Pilates. And this week we launched our newest program ‘Reformer On The Mat’. Both are great ways to sculpt, strengthen, and tone, but they are different when it comes to things like equipment and approach. Here’s some information on both methods so that you can decide what is best for you and your body!

Reformer Pilates

  • Resistance: The reformer machine uses springs for resistance. This added resistance can help strengthen and tone the muscles more effectively. I remember starting with lighter springs and slowly working my way up as I grew in strength and skills.
  • Support: The resistance from the springs provides support for your body, making it easier to balance and keep a proper form. This helps with avoiding strain on your body compared to similar exercises on the mat, where you’d have to engage your muscles to stay balanced.
  • Adjust: The reformer can adjust to fit anyone's fitness level or goals. Each move can be tailored to fit your needs and resistance can be adjusted to fit you and your body. This is your workout, your choice.
  • Rehabilitations: Pilates was created for athletes to help them recover making it a great option for rehabilitation and healing. So if you are an athlete or are recovering from an injury you can adjust your workout to be gentle on the joints and to slowly regain your strength and stability.

Mat Pilates

  • Accessibility: This workout is very accessible and can be done anywhere with minimal equipment, minimal space, and minimal time. You can do it at home, do it on vacation, and you can even do it on the beach!
  • Body Weight: The classes don't require any equipment because you can always use your own body weight. Although you can always add optional equipment to your workouts, it’s not required.
  • Flexibility & Strength: Mat Pilates helps with building flexibility and strength. I remember my body feeling so tight before starting pilates, but now I feel more relaxed and have much better range of motion.
  • Cost-Effective: Because this method is something that you can do from the comfort of your own home with minimal equipment, it is the more cost-effective option.

So which one is right for you?

Choosing between the two really just depends on your personal goals and your preferences. At the end of the day both Reformer and Mat Pilates offer amazing benefits. So why not give both a try and see which one works best for you? Your body will thank you!
